Fall 2023 Design and Color Trends

Hi Friend,

Are you ready for fall? After the heat of this summer, I AM! I know we are not pulling out the super thick blankets yet, but I KNOW many of you are SO ready for cooler weather.

As far as color and design, people are starting to swing away from the neutral palettes of farmhouse style, some warmer colors are coming into play as we embrace more color in our homes.

Whether you just want to add color through texture, art and accessories, warmer paint colors such as Sherwin Williams 7701 Cavern Clay and SW 7702 Spiced Cider (a little more orange) along with blues such as SW Riverway 6222, SW Comfort Grey 6205 plus beiges and greens, you are certainly livening up your spaces. These are great colors that bring a bit of “spice” to your space…

If you want to just bring the fall colors into your home for the season via accents, texture, etc., here are some thoughts:

Metallics for fall can add to your look. Bring out those copper mugs and copper pumpkins, and cozy up your kitchen space by adding some extras such as fall kitchen towels, baskets, etc. You can even create a fall beverage and muffin station! "Cozy up your cup!" says my printed sign I created.

Also, below is a great fall idea! Found this on Pinterest. I love the idea of a caramel apple bar. Source: Lizmarieblog.com and Pinterest.

Soft goods: Minimal design is popular right now with fewer accent pillows, but focus is more in creating a cozy space. Add a nice throw or two, and….Don’t forget to decorate for the season! I usually rotate things around my own home with things I already have, as I really do want to contribute less to the landfill. You would be amazed at how you can re-create a space by just adding a few new touches such as a cozy fall blanket, some faux or real greenery, fabric or ceramic pumpkins, and some new pillow covers.

Pillow covers take up way less storage (you just rotate them and buy same size inserts), and I’m all about that! I usually pick up just a few new things each season. As more of a shopping minimalist, it’s so fun to bring joy through thoughtful shopping and less waste.

Bring in nature with some texture. A great colored or clay vase or pot for an indoor faux or real tree, something wood, or even some natural branches or a floral arrangement placed on a table top to create visual interest.

I have this robust orange vase (below), which I love, because a pop of orange can always liven things up. This one is placed at the base of my fireplace.

Small pieces of fall art can also make a statement. This could include a framed fall photo, a canvas, or a very small fall saying. Be creative! Below is a pic of my mom and daughter from a few years ago. I miss Mom so much, but every time I see here doing something silly, it brings back such warm memories of her fun and loving spirit. Remember those wax red lips? So fun!

Do a “Shelfie” - more fun than a selfie! You can leave some of your existing decor, while blending in some fall. Bring a sense of YOU and your family to your home. See if you can spy the Budapest picture hidden somewhere on the shelves. I love the velvet pumpkins I got from Hobby Lobby!

Design should not be stressful! Create your own story in your home and have fun with it!

Remember, I’m in your corner, and I’ve helped my fandom folks just like you - style your home for just the right occasion!

Happy Fall Y’all!

Warmly,
